Kingwood's Foisner Family Celebrates Son's Homecoming In Unusual Manner

Foisner had served abroad in the Air Force for over four years and it
was time for him to come home to Kingwood. How did the Foisner family
celebrate his homecoming? A family sky diving adventure of course.

"My daughter had done this last summer and my son was jealous that she
beat him to it. So Kelly, my daughter, organized for the 4 of us, as
well as my 72 year old father-in-law, a cousin, and 3 of my husband's
work friends, to all participate. We had a blast!" said Rick's mother
Nancy Foisner. "Yes, I am petrified of heights and I usually don't
venture out of my comfort zone, but if my son could stand the blistering
heat of Qatar for us, then I could take this plunge to show him how
proud I was of his service in the military. I can't put into words
adaquately what it felt like, all I know is that it was exhillerating
and a total sensory overload, and yes, I would do it again!!"

The skydive took place on Saturday, July 19th 2008 at Sky Dive Spaceland
in Rosesharon near Pearland. Pictured top is Nancy Foisner with
instructor Chris Miller making the jump. Below is the Foisner family

Famous Cartoonist Teaching at Discovery College

 If
you know the Smurfs, then you know the work of Gerard Baldwin.

Children attending Discovery College at LSC-Kingwood will have the
amazing opportunity to learn from this Emmy award winning television
 producer.

Baldwin will teach Classical Perspective for ages 12 to 14, July 7
through 11, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and How to Write Animated Cartoons
 for ages 12 to 14, July 14 through 18, 1:00 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Baldwin says the Classical Perspective class will appeal to anyone
interested in learning to draw. Students will learn what perspective is,
what the horizon line is and about one and two point perspective.

"Each day, students will have something accomplished to take home and
 show mom," he says.

In How to Write Animated Cartoons, students will learn the numerous
steps involved in producing a cartoon. These steps include, determining
the client and their needs, coming up with a premise, as well as
concepts and characters and completing an outline.

Baldwin hopes students interested in this process will come away with
valuable knowledge. He learned a lot, not in a classroom, but from a
mentoring adult when he was the age his Discovery College students will
 be.

"I hope the students will learn something from me. When I was young, I
lived near a radio station, there was no television back then, and I
would walk down there and the announcer would read my scripts, make
changes and suggestions and that's how I learned to write."

Baldwin is an adjunct professor at LSC-Kingwood and continues to stay
busy creating one of a kind originals of the many characters that made
him famous. Other popular cartoons he worked on in the past, included
Mr. Magoo, Rocky and Bullwinkle, George of the Jungle and many others.
